How to Find a Perfect Domain in 10 minutes?

What is a Domain?

A domain is the name of your website. It is the address where Internet users can access your website. The computer uses IP addresses that are a series of numbers. However, it is very difficult for humans to identify and remember IP addresses. Therefore domain names were developed and used to recognize entities on the internet.

A domain name can be any combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. It also uses different types of the various domain extensions, such as .com, .net, .org, etc… There are 200+ different types of extensions available on today’s date. Still, having difficulty in understanding?

domain extension: .com, .net, .es, .org, .eu, .biz, .us, .info, .fr

Let’s take an example to understand clearly. For example, our domain name is So, mebloggingsite is our domain name and “.com” is an extension. I guess you might have understood it until now. So, let’s move further…

For a Blog to become successful a good name is necessary. You must choose your domain name wisely because name plays a significant role in making a successful blog. And if you choose the wrong one then it might be a very complex task to change it, which will hurt your brand and ranking. Particularly if your blog has reached a certain high level.

Having difficulty in choosing a precise domain?

Don’t worry! After reading this guide till the end you will come up with a good name. To make it easy I will divide this guide into two parts.

#1 – Key Points you must consider while selecting a domain.

#2 – How to come up with a domain?

You can skip to the 2nd part but I recommend you also go through 1st part as this part also contains some important points while selecting a name for your website.

1. Key Points to consider

→ Go for a domain that is related to your niche

Initially ask yourself; what’s your blog is going to be about? What topics you are planning to share on your blog? Once you decide your niche then it will be easier to find a name for your blog.

For example, Our domain name is because here we will be discussing topics related to blogging, earning money from a blog, SEO related, etc…

Suppose you select “Photography Zone” as your domain and later you decide to write about Tech on your blog then you will face a lot of problems to rank your site. Always remember that your domain should be related to your blog vision.

→ Aim for a shorter domain

Select a name that is short, eye-catchy and easy to remember and read. Well, always it is not possible to select a name that fits the above criteria. But still, you have to consider this point while selecting a domain. If you choose a name that is eye-catchy and easy to remember, eventually it will help people to search for your name.

For Example, Assume you are Mike and you are scheduling to create a photography blog, after spending too much time looking for a name you lastly came up with a blog name called “Nick Wildlife Photography blog”. Unfortunately, this might be a bad decision because it is too long and also it will be tough for your readers to remember.

→ Avoid Numbers & Special Characters

Strictly avoid special characters like: !@#$%^&*()_+… If you still choose a name with special characters only because the name you wished is already taken then your viewers might end up on your competitor’s site while searching. In some cases, you may use a number, only if it’s necessary or if you are out of options. But I recommend you to choose a simple and easy to read domain.

Imagine if our domain name was something like “” Quite useless isn’t? So always choose a simple and straight forward domain.

→ Avoid the use of Trademark

The major mistake most people unintentionally make is choosing a name that includes a registered trademark. For instance, if a domain name that includes Apple, Tata, Samsung, Amazon, Google or any other registered trademark name may cause a legal issue in the future. If you wish to read more about Trademark guidelines then visit here.

→ Keyword-Rich Domain

I recommend you to select a keyword-rich domain. By including your main keyword in the domain name, you will notify the search engine regarding your website niche. This will help you to rank higher in the Google search engine.

For instance: Our name is “”. So the main keyword here is blogging because we share topics related to blogging.

→ Go for “.com” Extension only

Until date, there are 200+ domain name extensions available and this number is growing every day. Among all of them “.com” is the most popular and recognizable domain extension followed by .org and .net…

Every extension is specially made and used for specific purposes. Like: .gov is for government websites and also every country has its specific extension. For India it is .in and for the United States its .us and so on… These days many funky domain extensions have released like .photography, .blog, etc. It may be fun to use funky extensions but .com is still the most popular and recognizable domain extension.

I have myself realized that the majority of the people who are not conscious of the term Domain extension, automatically type “.com” at the end of all domain names without judging much about it. This is the reason why I recommend you to go with a .com extension.

By now you must have understood what are the key points you should consider while selecting a domain. Now, let’s move on to the next part.

2. How to select a domain?

→ Refer your competitor’s domain name

By going through some of your competitor’s websites and checking their domains would help you to get some creative ideas and inspiration. Checking names and getting ideas from top blogs within your niche is fine but I do not recommend you to copy other people’s names

→ Make Use of Your Name

Using your name as your domain name might be a good idea. Your name can make an extra personal touch and warm presence amongst your readers.

A lot of bloggers chose to name their blog on their name and those blogs are very successful today. Like: Neil,,,, and many more. It also helps you to build a personal brand. Also as your domain is your name, you will have full freedom to switch between whatever topics.

However, this doesn’t mean that you cannot deliver the same value or targeted blog posts. So if you use your name as your domain name it will be simple but a little bit less eye-catchy. And also you are not tied down to a specific niche if you use your name.

Only use your name as your domain name if you are sure about building your branding. Or else a simple and memorable blog name may work better in the long term.

→ Find a Blog Name Using a Name Generator

You might know that there are many tools available for searching for anything. So, it is not a surprise that there are several tools available for finding a good quality blog name. But which is the best tool?

Well, I recommend you use the Nameboy tool. This tool gives you hundreds of domain names related to your main keyword. Simply go to Nameboy and enter your main keyword, and it will show you hundreds of available domains related to your keywords by adding suffixes and prefixes in the keyword. It also shows you some of the cool taken domain names in case you wish to buy it from the person who has already taken it.

Bonus Tip:

I use this strategy to find a good domain. I guess, by now you might have an idea of the niche you are planning to work on. If yes then think about your niche as your primary keyword. For example: If you are planning to start a blog related to finance then you may include Finance, Dollar, Penny, Money, funds, cash, capital, etc… type of words in your domain.

I am also providing a bunch of ideas of other words that you can pair with your primary keyword related to your niche. This might help you to come up with a perfect domain name.
